What is anxiety and depression?

Depression and anxiety are mental health conditions. They can affect how you think, feel and act. They can make everyday life feel hard and make you feel distressed. Some people can experience anxiety and depression at the same time.

Anxiety is when you feel strong worry, fear, or nervousness. It can make things feel more threatening or serious than they actually are. These feelings can be difficult to manage and control. They can make it challenging for you to do everyday things, like sleep, study, work and be with friends. It can make your heartbeat fast, cause panic attacks, and cause you to feel overwhelmed and exhausted.

Depression is when you feel tired, low energy, sad and irritable almost all the time. It can make you lose interest in the things you usually enjoy doing. It can make it hard to sleep, focus, feel motivated, or make decisions. It feels this way even when you try things that usually help you feel better.
